Our Vision

Resilient youth become powerful leaders.

Children of incarcerated parents often grow up without the support they need. They experience stigma, loss, and instability, yet few resources are designed specifically for them. At Project Avary, we are committed to changing that.

For over 25 years, we have provided long-term mentorship, leadership development, and community for youth impacted by parental incarceration. When young people have consistent support, meaningful opportunities, and a sense of belonging, they can heal from trauma, develop confidence, and build the skills they need to shape their own futures.

Our vision is clear: a world where children of incarcerated parents are seen, supported, and equipped to lead. Through programs that focus on healing, growth, and leadership, we help youth build strong relationships, navigate challenges, and step into leadership roles — both within Project Avary and in their own communities.

This approach has a lasting impact. Year after year, over 90% of Project Avary youth show measurable growth in vital social-emotional skills such as leadership, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and resilience. 94% of our alumni have remained uninvolved with the criminal justice system as adults. These numbers reflect the power of long-term investment in a young person’s life and the strength of community and relationships.

I invite you to learn more about how we put this vision into action. Our outdoor leadership program, national support groups, leadership pathway, and efforts to build more equitable schools for children of incarcerated parents ensure that young people feel supported, develop confidence, and take steps toward their future.

Thank you for being part of this movement. Every child deserves guidance, encouragement, and the opportunity to lead with confidence. By joining us, you are helping ensure they are no longer forgotten.
