When a parent is detained or deported

Aquí eres parte de la familia.

You are welcome here!

When a parent is detained or deported, the impact on children is devastating. Families are separated in an instant. Children are left behind to navigate fear, confusion, and deep grief, often without the support they need to process what’s happening.

At Project Avary, we recognize that this experience carries the same emotional weight as parental incarceration. It brings stigma, isolation, and long-term effects on mental and emotional well-being.

We’re here to support youth through that!

Project Avary serves youth with detained and deported parents through the same long-term, healing-centered model that supports all of our participants.

Whether it’s in a summer fire circle or an online support group, we create spaces where youth feel seen, heard, and surrounded by others who understand their experience.

We also understand how important it is for caregivers and families to feel safe and supported. For those facing immigration-related separation, we offer a caring community rooted in trust, cultural sensitivity, and respect. Our outreach and enrollment process includes Spanish-speaking staff and counselors, and we maintain strong relationships with community partners and advocates to ensure families feel seen and their privacy is protected.

If you’ve lost a parent to detention or deportation, you are not alone. You belong here.
