Avary's Annual Teen Retreat

Our annual teen retreat is highly anticipated by Avary youth and staff counselors alike!

Our teen participants are the backbone of Avary's leadership program, serving as role models to the younger children and continuing on as Avary's new generation of counselors. This special retreat is an opportunity for our older youth to reflect on where they've been, where they're going and their connection to the Avary community.

The weekend began with break-out groups of smaller pods to participate in focused workshops on facilitating fire circles, community music and the power of play in healing. The second day featured a fun series of challenging ropes courses and a group team building exercise where everyone had to work together for a common goal. These activities created beautiful moments with an energy of support and resilience, analogous to Avary's mission.

The retreat wrapped with a meaningful group discussion around the rules and expectations of Avary's teen leaders. Everyone was given an opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings in collaborative way... followed by an amazing Karaoke session :)
