Camp Avary 2021

After over a year of immense isolation, stress, fear, and uncertainty, Camp Avary 2021 was such an important respite for our youth!

This year we gathered closer to home at Clem Miller Environmental Education Center in Point Reyes National Seashore. Here, we were able to ensure a safe camp environment as we returned to overnight, sleep away camp. We spent our days outside either playing games together on the camp grounds or hopping across West Marin as we went surfing, hiking, and swam in every swim hole we came across. In the evenings we spent our time huddled around a camp fire, sharing stories and opening up about all we've been experiencing.

During camp, the Avary Family comes together as one community, as we reconnect with the beauty and peace of the great outdoors. Each day, the camp offers a variety of outdoor activities where the campers tap into and cultivate their emotional awareness and experience the joys of play that is free from any stress or demand of home and city life. Most importantly, the camp is a cultivated family filled with caring adults and peers who support one another through the struggles of having a parent in prison.

These photos offer a glimpse into the love and magic of Camp Avary. We are so grateful for our amazing community!
