COVID-19 Response

Dear Community,

These times are reminding us all about the power and importance of community and human relationships. 
 
The Avary Community brings joy, healing, and support to our children and families, and this is especially important during these trying times when social isolation and emotional distress are putting our children in even greater harm’s way.
 
We’re grateful to all the Avary Angels, our staff, volunteers, and alumni, for your creativity and hard work to meet this moment and to ensure our children are cared for and supported. 
 
Here’s what we’re up to during the Covid-19 crisis:
 

• Adventure Zoom Groups for children ages 8-13

• Teen Leader support groups for youth ages 14-18

• 1-1 youth mentoring

• Caregiver support, and crisis management

• Providing food and essential items to households

• Junior Counselor and Counselor training

• Most importantly, providing every child with the security and knowing that they have a place of belonging with the Avary Family, and that they are never alone

 
We’re stronger together! When we come together, when we contribute and share what we can, then, as a community of one, we ensure the youth have what they need to grow up healthy, strong, and free from the unjust cycles of poverty, violence and incarceration.

Here's a behind the scenes look at what we've been up to:

Case Management & Caregiver Support:

Case managers ensure households have their essential needs met, including food and shelter, and provide caregivers with counseling and emotional support to help them through this highly stressful time.

Teen Leader Support:

Our amazing Teen Leaders are continuing their development as Junior Counselors and are quickly learning how to be a counselor in an online space. These groups also importantly provide teens with a safe place to share and process emotions.

Youth Support:

Our Adventure Zoom Groups connect youth and teens with positive and supportive community, where they get to laugh and have fun, are supported emotionally, and where they know they are part of the Avary Family where no child is ever left behind.
