Youth Mentoring Program

A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.
— Oprah Winfrey

The central task of Avary Mentors involves the journey of awakening the unique, inner spirit of each youth. The Avary Mentor helps to guide and awaken a young person to their potential, revealing the gifts they have to give the world. The mentor honors the nobility and inner spirit of the youth. They see and respect the brilliance within the mentee, reflect it to the child, and support the youth to claim and live their truth in life.

Studies show that youth with mentors are far more likely to stay in school and attend college, form positive social attitudes and relationships and are better equipped to deal with challenging life transitions. Nothing has more impact in the life of a child than positive relationships.

HOW DOES THE PROJECT AVARY MENTORING PROGRAM WORK?

After applying to be a mentor, you will go through a screening process which includes a background check, reference check and an interview. Project Avary will provide a comprehensive orientation and training before matching you with a child.

Your mentee will live in a neighborhood that is within comfortable travel distance to you. As a mentor, you'll be part of a strong supportive team. Project Avary staff will be available to answer your questions and provide guidance at any time.

In addition to your individual meetups each month, you and your mentee will be invited to join various Project Avary group mentoring activities, such as white water rafting, bike riding, ropes courses, surfing and more!
