BASIC ELIGIBILITY
We accept new participants during our spring enrollment period. Applicants must be between 8 and 10 years old and must have a parent who is currently or recently in prison or jail. Attending summer camp is the entry point to Project Avary.
The application process begins with a brief phone intake interview. Parents or caregivers are encouraged to initiate the enrollment process, as are teachers, counselors, or social workers. All applications must include an interview with a non-family member who has direct knowledge of the child’s behavior and needs. Space is limited and early applications are encouraged.
To be eligible, a child must:
- Have an immediate family member who is either currently or recently incarcerated.
- Be between the ages of 8 and 10.
- Have at least one adult who can support the child through the application process. This includes filling out forms, making sure the child is packed and ready for camp, and gets to our van pick-up spot on time.
- Lives in Marin, San Francisco, Alameda, or Contra Costa counties.
