HOW TO REFER A CHILD TO PROJECT AVARY

BASIC ELIGIBILITY

New children to Project Avary must first attend a one-week summer camp session. They need to enroll in the program during the spring of each year. Space is limited and early applications are encouraged.

Children’s caregivers or their teachers, counselors, or social workers can initiate the enrollment process. The application process includes a brief phone interview with the caregiver and must also include an interview with a non-family member with direct knowledge of the child’s behavior and needs.

To be eligible, a child must:

  • Have an immediate family member who is either currently or recently incarcerated.
  • Be ages 8, 9 or 10.
  • Have at least one adult who can support the child through the application process. This includes filling out forms, making sure the child is packed and ready for camp, and gets to our van pick-up spot on time.
  • Lives in Marin, San Francisco, Alameda, or Contra Costa counties.

The fact that we all share that one thing in common, makes it comfortable, and a place you can open up and feel like you can belong."

To start the process please call our office at 415-382-8799 or send an application request to info@projectavary.org.  At this time we will conduct a short phone intake interview, which should take 10-15 minutes.

Families are encouraged to complete the application process as quickly as possible because we normally receive twice as many applications as available spaces.
