OUR PROGRAMS

Project Avary programs include a sleep- away summer camp, day trips on weekends throughout the school year, a teen leadership program, and gatherings for families. Each program engages children and teens in age appropriate activities that foster environmental awareness, social and emotional skills, independent living skills, and leadership skills. Our diverse professional staff has extensive experience in enrichment programs, camps and schools. We are also committed to supporting caregivers as they navigate the challenges of losing a loved one to prison or jail.

All Avary programs and services are provided at no cost to our participants.

CAMP AVARY - immersing children in positive community

Each summer children and teens come together for 1-4 weeks at our beautiful camp in Northern California. Camp includes traditional summer camp activities such as music, dance, swim lessons, and athletics. These activities are supplemented by discussion groups, workshops on expressive communications, and conflict resolution training.

There is a resident nurse and the staff to child ratio is 1:2.

ADVENTURE DAYS - providing weekend activities that broaden horizons

School year excursions involve children ages 8 to 13 in unique cultural and recreational experiences such as museum tours, mountain biking, and visits to environmental education centers. Each outing includes emotional and social skills exercises.

TEEN LEADERSHIP - offering opportunities to give back

At age 14 select teens intern as Counselors in Training. They participate in the Youth Advisory Board and learn important employment and counseling skills. Beginning at age 16 teens train as Junior Counselors. With the support of seasoned youth professionals, they work as paid staff members and mentor younger children.

FAMILY SUPPORT - building the structure for success

Annual retreats and outings give families the chance to come together and enjoy activities just for them. Family Advocates connect families to vital community resources and conduct caregiver support groups that cement a sense of community. Discussions include challenges specific to parenting children with an incarcerated parent.

"You all have meant so much to me and my child.  You have no idea. Exposing her to positive things at a young age.  Helping her keep centered and on track. People tell me I'm a good dad, but I say I had a lot of help."
